I think we’ll all be expecting a monograph from the Obama design team. This video showed up on the Denver air waves the week of the convention. Appropriately, it uses a song by The National called “Fake Empire”.
Thought I’d post some pics from the preview party last night at the Academy of Sciences. We did all the exhibition graphics on the main floor. The east side is pretty much complete, while the west still has a way to go. Some of the coolest looking stuff is the big background images that were printed directly onto plywood. Gives everything a warm feel. It’s been a great project to be a part of.
I’ll post some more photos soon… I seem to be having trouble with the upload.
I stumbed across the work of Norike Ambe today. She does amazing work carving up books and blocks of paper. The above piece was a collaborative effort with Ed Rushca. Reminds me of those beautiful topo studies that architects do. Yum.
Mad Men continues to blow my mind with it’s attention to detail. We’ve all seen the sweet title sequence, but look at this frame from the latest episode…
I snap off pictures of with my [touch-screen phone] when I’m walking around and I never do anything with them. So here’s a few recent things that caught my eye. What do you have in your phone?
Kate and I were walking through Potrero the other day and saw this on the underside of a condo. They must use some cool instrument that can see into the concrete and the diagram is awesome (even if coincidentally so).
DIY design, 8 year-old style. Seems effective from my limited observation.
This page just called out to me. How did it end up in a puddle at [large brick-and-mortar electronics retailer]? What the hell is it about?
Why it’s sometimes better to give people less options
Not exactly design-related in any way, but I wasn’t the only one who was stopping to take a picture of this sunset.
What’s in your phone? Make a post if you’re a contributor or send it to me.
Story, animation and direction by Johnny Kelly. Voice Over by Bryan Quinn.
Went to the SF Shorts last night, and saw this film, twice. It certainly was memorable. The general consensus among the small group of designers was “AWESOME” with the exception of the ending…
